Dancing Spirit!
I was in many of the dances in the recital but one I contributed was "Stompa". With the process of planning this dance was the group decided what the song meant and how it related to the theme "Spirit", we decided that we were gonna use puppeteers that would be society controlling the people (puppets) and an individual that would be going against the norm and in the end help the others go against it as well. The music we chose really went with the theme of "Spirit"
"People, working every night and day Never give yourself no time.... When you can’t seem to shake off all the feelings that are breaking Little pieces of the music that’s in you All the pain that you feel I can prove it’s not real There’s just one thing you gotta do Gotta get up, listen to me Clappa your hands, stompa your feet" For keeping the theme of "Spirit" for the dance was in a way easy because we wanted to get the point across of 'you don't gotta be in the norm', so by having the beginning showing manipulation to by the end showing everyone coming out of the 'norm' and being themselves proves our though of "Spirit" for this song. Also through the stages of each phase the group and I needed to decide when the puppets would escape from the 'norm' and how each puppet and puppeteer would be doing for each movement and formation. I contributed to the dance by creating and helping to develop Carly's solo and in suggesting ideas to add to different formations and when to get up and and down. |
